"I am free to be myself."

What a splendid idea! I am a big fan of inspirational quotes and I really liked this one today.
I have been struggling with figuring out what I should do for an online presence, and I finally came to the realization that it is simply easier for me to have a blog and to keep it simple.

Whew...I said it. It is rather freeing to admit that I do not want more hassle in my life with a crazy website. So many other things I would rather be doing. Like painting, writing, working on graphic design or illustration projects. I would even rather be cleaning than fiddling around with my own website. :-)

In the great state of Minnesota it is a cold and blustery day, 6º above zero...yes, practically balmy, right?

I happen to be working on new artwork, like this:

Simple wash with gouache on watercolor paper and then a doodle with ink added.

My Magic Trees

 

This watercolor painting is entitled "Magic Trees". Well, they are—really, how else would you explain how they are growing out of the tops of the bottom two? This was a doodle that took on a life of its own, and once I was painting, the trees just appeared. I love happy little accidents like that—they seem to happen when I am simply painting to enjoy the color, not focusing on the content as much as the actual act. Very meditative and relaxing. I hope you enjoy the magic trees in your life!

Monday, Monday

Happy Monday to everyone!

It is a glorious day here, sunny & breezy, with a freshness to the air that is much appreciated after a couple of days of 90º. I opened up the house and even Odie (the Corgi) is sprawled in the porch happily sleeping after a walk we went on.

Today is a day in the studio, so I shall be posting updates of new work!

Good morning! Here is the most current piece I am working on. Sleepy Girl, as I call her, is so far being rendered with ink and gouache. Now I just need to add in the sheep. :-)
